My Therapeutic Approach
My approach to therapy is a holistic one. While I draw on my traditional psychological trainings to provide a strong and reliable therapeutic framework, I also integrate somatic approaches to support a more effective and personalised outcome.
Psychoeducation is a central part of my work, and hearing “That makes sense!” reflects a powerful sense of relief and validation you will experience from the process of understanding.
Assessment, collaborative goal setting, and identifying the most appropriate approach for each individual client, shapes the style of our work together. The comparisons below are offered to provide further insight into an integrated approach.
- Traditional therapy = focuses mainly on your thoughts and feelings
- Holistic therapy = looks at your whole life (mind, body, habits, and environment)
Integrating Holistic and Traditional Therapy
| Holistic Therapy | Traditional Therapy |
|---|---|
| Treats the whole person (mind, body, emotions, and sometimes spirit) | Focuses mainly on mental and emotional issues |
| Looks at root causes across different areas of life (lifestyle, physical health, beliefs) | Focuses on specific symptoms or psychological problems |
| Combines talking therapy with other approaches (e.g. meditation, mindfulness, breath work, creative therapies) | Primarily uses talking techniques (e.g. psychotherapy, counselling) |
| Sees mind, body, and life circumstances as connected and interdependent | Often treats mental issues as separate from physical or lifestyle factors |
| Highly personalised and flexible to suit the individual | More structured, based on specific therapy models |
| Overall balance, wellbeing, and long-term lifestyle change | Reduce symptoms and improve mental health |
| Mindfulness, coaching, visualisation, breathwork | EMDR, parts work, psychotherapy, counselling, trauma focused sessions |
