You do not need to live with fear, pain and sadness. There are various approaches to emotional healing. The right approach will support you to make a difference to yourself, which means making a difference to your life.
Counselling offers you the ability to sit with another human being who will not judge and who is there for you unconditionally. It is a unique and valuable relationship. A counsellor commits to supporting their client without bias. You will be able to, when trust has been established, use the support offered to gain stabilisation, insight and clarity. This is called processing. We as humans need to make sense and meaning of what we experience and sometimes we bypass this, this leaves us confused and distracted. Counselling allows the interpretation and meaning of unresolved situations to take place. You will then not be bothered by trying to problem solve creating those distractive thoughts. You will have solved the problem.
Using psychotherapy, you will be offered the chance to gain meaning from experiences that date back further than the present. You will be able to weave an understanding of their impact and effect on who you are and how you function. Our inability to function effectively impairs our quality of life and robs us of opportunities to thrive, grow and work with our pure authentic self.
Using psychotherapy as a method of exploration will support you in gaining emotional security to challenge events and consequences from the past. You will leave behind burdens you have been carrying because of how you misinterpreted experiences from the past. Which are dictating your behaviour now.
If you are seeking a problem solving, solution focused approach to a life change exploring options and possibilities in a neutral space provides the quiet and organisation of the mind from where clarity and decisions can be accessed. Life coaching is about coaching you through life. If you have a firm foundation and are not emotionally overwhelmed, making appropriate adjustments and changes, to feel mentally and physically healthier, can be beneficial. Life coaching provides this service.
For anyone struggling with emotional injury/psycholigcal trauma from the past or present and needs a treatment to realign the emotional nervous system EMDR provides the healing platform from which to reduce the emotional and physical disturbance from any traumatic life event. This can be a single even or a cumulative, repeated one. When we are emotionally injured the pain and scars left unhealed, result in a distorted interpretation of life, safety, trust, confidence, shame and guilt.
This distorted interpretation informs our thinking feeling and behaviour throughout our life until we reach a point that we feel we cannot swim against the tide anymore. EMDR offers the opportunity to swim in calm water.
We all need support and help, even therapists. My clinical supervision offers an open and free space to explore your work, your clients and yourself. Â Therapeutic understanding does not have to come from a place of being a SME for all models. A mature, respectful, curious and sensitive approach provides a place for healthy growth and insight into new and favoured approaches to therapeutic work, always respecting the need for a healthy therapist.
As with any diagnosis sometimes a general practitioner in therapy is not suitable for more complex symptoms. Psychological trauma has a way of embedding itself deep into the psyche. Sometimes it’s the invisible controller of feeling, behaviour and physical health. Without the expertise to dig out the root cause of the problem the symptoms reoccur frequently or infrequently disrupting life and the ability to function and engage in a healthy and proactive way. Working with trauma requires a sensitive and supportive approach as well as specialist knowledge to achieve the reduction and eradication of physical and emotional symptoms and disruptive behaviours and choices.
